Our role in the community

The Freedom Community Trust Limited (FCT Ltd) is a registered charity with no employees but with a Board of Trustees, representative of the local community, to steer direction and agree actions. It was created from the Government’s New Deal for Communities Programme and owns a number of properties within the Village Centre.

The Charity aims to bring benefits to the people of Hull, especially those living on the Preston Road estate, in any way that the FCT Ltd Board believes is helpful. Benefits can include activity around: unemployment, education & training, recreation & leisure, the environment, childcare, public safety, the promotion of health and healthy lifestyles.

FCT Ltd can do this in a number of ways including borrowing and investing monies, making grants or loans, buying property, carrying out research, reserving money for future expenditure and creating subsidiary companies.

Preston Road Enterprises Limited (PRE Ltd) is a trading company of the FCT Ltd whose profits are fed back into the Charity to enable FCT Ltd to achieve its aims. PRE runs the Freedom Centre as a community facility. Instead of charging commercial rates for community activities within the Freedom Centre activities and events are offered at low cost to the community.
